I noticed you did really well with regularly checking for understanding. You were always focused on whether Kwabena understood the idea or not, and you were very patient throughout the session, consistently helping fill in his knowledge gaps. One thing I would recommend is that after you explain a knowledge gap using one example, you let the learner handle the next step on their own to confirm their understanding. For instance, when you and Kwabena were solving the circle equation, you explained it perfectly. You clarified what the h and k represent, how they should be written in the equation, and why option A was incorrect. Since you had already demonstrated how the h is written, you could have then had him write the k himself and eliminate the remaining options on his own. This would help you verify that he truly understood the concept.

You showed a really strong and deep understanding of the material. Even though the session wasn’t something you could prepare for beforehand, since you waited for the learner to share the questions and the topic, you were still able to bring in questions that were perfectly suited to the learner’s needs, which was fantastic. You answered the learner’s questions clearly and then continued by guiding him through Khan Academy with exercises that matched his level and supported his learning goals. Overall, it was an excellent session.

I love how it was mostly him solving while you asked a few guiding questions. I recommend asking more follow-up questions, and it would be even better if you encouraged the learner to annotate or write on the shared screen. That way, you can see their full thought process. Sometimes learners will state what was given, say “let me solve it,” and then jump straight to the final result. Even though it seemed like Kwabena understood the topics, seeing the steps helps confirm that the correct answer didn’t happen by chance.

I loved how you consistently encouraged the learner throughout the session and never judged their mistakes. One thing I would recommend is to start using the learner’s name from the very beginning of the session, rather than waiting until the middle. I understand that sometimes a learner’s name might be unfamiliar and you may be unsure how to pronounce it, but you could quickly check the pronunciation beforehand or have the learner introduce themselves at the start. This helps you get the name right from the beginning and makes the session feel even more personal and welcoming.
