You reinforced Shanice’s successes with specific praise and reframed errors as opportunities to learn. Over the course of the session, she grew more confident in her annotations and even began self-correcting. You built a supportive and patient atmosphere where Shanice felt safe to admit confusion and try again. You normalized mistakes, reassured her when she hesitated, and encouraged her to keep practicing.

You came prepared with a plan to use Khan Academy practice problems and incorporated Desmos as a visualization tool. You also encouraged annotation throughout, which gave the session structure. That said, there were a few moments where you paused to re-read or re-check the problem wording, which slowed momentum slightly. Anticipating these common roadblocks in advance would help your transitions feel even smoother. When it came to understanding the material, it was clear you did. You demonstrated a strong grasp of algebraic reasoning and problem-solving techniques. For example, you quickly identified solution types in systems of equations and explained word-problem translations with clarity. Your ability to connect math concepts to shortcuts (like recognizing “parallel lines = no solution”) showcased deep content knowledge.
