Hello Everyone! I am currently a grade 11 high school student from Calgary. I hope this program will help me discover new study habits and become more open-minded in discussions. I love playing sports and doing math!

Upcoming Sessions

Dialogue Session on Political Violence and Polarization

    Starts

Welcome to [Dialogues](https://schoolhouse.world/dialogues)! In this session, we will be discussing Political Violence and Polarization and using this discussion guide: [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PT9apRhRvzvGaPMz13wt9PsORUzx7tvQfz2EKeEQc3I/edit?tab=t.0#heading=h.lncugkbvgia1](https://schoolhouse.world/redirect?code=2BjXUwuDyHy5xe53s-7MM) Here’s some helpful information to help you prepare for your session: 📌 Session introduction: At the start of the session, the event host will provide some introductory remarks about how the session will work and tips for discussion. 🧩 Discussion partner matching: All participants will be matched with a conversation partner to discuss with. If there are uneven numbers, you may have two conversation partners. 🤝 Breakout discussions: After the session introduction, everyone will switch to their breakout discussion. Your discussion will be unmoderated, so you can start when your partner arrives in the new Zoom link. 🗺️ Discussion Guide: You will have a topic-specific discussion guide for the session to help guide conversation. ⏰ Session length: The breakout discussions are scheduled for 45 minutes but you can discuss as long as you want! ✅ Stay on topic: Please make sure to stay on topic. If you and your partner run out of things to discuss, it’s okay to end the discussion early. You will not be returning to the main group when your conversation is over. 🤔 Make the discussion your own: You probably won’t have time to answer all the guide questions so pick and choose! Feel free to also bring in your own questions and ideas outside of the guide. 📝 Survey: A mandatory survey will appear at the end of your session to fill out. This must be filled out for you to get credit for the session in your Dialogues portfolio. 🤸‍♂️ Have fun: There is no preparation needed for this event. These conversations are meant to be casual, in addition to being meaningful. We hope you enjoy it!

All meetings will have a central topic on a certain law or policy such as gun control, drug policies, the death penalty, etc. Feel free to join and share your perspective on the rules that govern everyday society! Join a virtual Dialogue Club to form a community with students from around the world. Dialogue Clubs meet every other week to discuss a new topic. By participating in 3+ Dialogue sessions, you will get a Dialogues portfolio you can submit with your college applications to our university partners.

Thank you so much for this discussion club. I love these topics, and talking with people from other countries where the situation is different makes me realize that it is possible to improve the current situation.

This was my first session and I really enjoyed it! Going into it, I didn't really know what to expect, but my conversation partner helped me a lot with getting the hang of how the meetings work, and I also really appreciated the introduction at the beginning of the meeting as well. Thank you!
