I think you did an excellent job when it came to developing a humanistic connection with your learners. This is because you allowed them to express their thoughts before you helped navigate them even if they didn't know with another student's example. As a result, they were eventually able to master the material, proven with their ability to solve the problems on their own more often towards the end. Additionally, you mantained the right tone and attitude with your learners, creating a comfortable learning environment. Great job!

I think you did an excellent job when it came to the foundations of this session. This is because you knew the process in which you would present the concepts and had a set of practice problems, ensuring an organized and smoothly ran session. Additionally, you have an excellent understanding of connecting between radicals and exponents. The main thing that helped your learners deeply understand the concept is to understand simplifying fractions which helped conceptualize equivalent rational expressions and converting both ways, which allowed your learners to feel more comfortable in the concept. Great job here!

Thank you for the session! You are probably one of the most patient tutors I´ve met! And I'm learning a lot about radicals and exponents even though I used to struggle more with them.

The tutor strengthened Arsh’s confidence by praising correct answers, like “That’s great” for solving the arc length 20π/3 cm. The tutor also created a comfortable environment by encouraging questions and correcting errors, like Arsh’s unit mistake (cm to cm²), with patience.

The tutor was ready to teach and introduced circles and explained arc measure with the formula θ/360 = s/2πr and a clear example of a 60 degree arc with a 6-unit radius yielding 2π. The tutor also showed strong knowledge by using a whiteboard to illustrate sector area, like calculating 205.042 cm² for a 120 degree angle with a 14 cm radius. However, starting with even a basic review of circle basics could ensure Arsh’s prior knowledge is solid.

Thank you for taking your time and guiding us into solving the problems ourselves.

I think you did well when it came to adapting to your learner. You did excellent in making sure you attended to your learner's questions and struggles, showing your attention as a tutor and for them to master the content. Additionally, you helped clarify concepts (Ex. (x/y)^2) when they didn't understand it, reexplaining it in a different way so they can best learn the content. Again, when your learners directly admit their struggles, you should try to support them immediately rather than skipping over them so you can understand their thinking process and how you can adapt to them.

I think you did a good job when it came to engaging with your learners. This is mainly because you made sure they were involved with the problems you created, allowing them to answer the questions and making sure they explained their thinking. That's excellent in understanding your learner's thinking process and their approach. My suggestion to you, however, is to be more consistent at it. For example, when your learners didn't know how to solve the problems, it was better to ask an open-question (Ex. What approaches have you tried?) and to summarize those steps rather than skipping over them. You want to make sure all of your learners are doing what's best so they can be engaged. (I recommend searching up the concept motivational interviewing to learn more about it)

The tutor noticed Arsh’s struggles about angle 2 and clarified that inscribed angles are half the arc measure, explaining how 65 degree for a 130 degree arc. The tutor also adapted by reviewing central versus inscribed angles, making sure that Arsh understood concepts like a 80° arc equaling an 80° central angle. One point of improvement could be using simpler examples before complex ones as it could help Arsh understand the concepts more easily.

Tutor · 1 mo. ago

The tutor kept Arsh engaged by asking him to solve problems, such as finding a 65 degree inscribed angle from a 130 degree arc measure. The tutor encouraged Arsh to explain his reasoning, like why angle 1 was 30 degrees due to vertically opposite angles, fostering active participation. I would suggest adding a short activity, like discussing real-world circle applications, to enhance engagement and make the session more interesting for the learner.
