You were fully prepared for this session, and your explanations showed a strong understanding of implicit differentiation, the chain rule, product rule, and continuity. I especially liked how you paused to walk through the student’s steps and gently guided corrections without overwhelming them. You explained why certain derivative rules apply and used clear examples that matched the student’s level. One thing I’d like to see you refine is tightening small moments of hesitation—just keeping your structure a little cleaner so the learner stays confident in each step.

You strengthened the learner’s confidence throughout the session with consistent reassurance, especially when they doubted themselves. Your tone was warm, comfortable, and very supportive, which made it easy for the learner to stay relaxed even during tougher problems. Keep leaning into that—your calm energy helps the learner push through moments of frustration.

The tutor fostered an Advanced rapport, opening the session with a warm peer-to-peer conversation about college apps and stress. She created a highly supportive and safe learning environment where Katie felt comfortable admitting confusion (I'm getting confused now, I don't recollect it that well). Wylene used consistent and positive reinforcement for correct answers and handled moments of her own confusion and student errors with humor and empathy (It's a Tuesday afternoon It's okay, it's okay, no worries). Her overall manner was highly encouraging and celebrating successes (Yeah, I think you have the hang of it, Yay!) and assuring Katie that tricky calculations like those with negatives were manageable ("you got this").

Thank you for the session, I am so glad that I picked you to be my tutor, I really enjoyed your lessons. I bit sad that our sessions will end soon but I hope with all the time spent I will get a good score.

I appreciated how you immediately slowed down when the learner seemed unsure and reshaped the problem in smaller, manageable chunks. You also validated their confusion instead of brushing past it, which helps a lot. I would like to see you continue building on this by giving brief recaps after tricky steps—these small summaries can help the learner feel even more secure before moving forward.

Wylene showed Advanced instructional agility by quickly adapting her teaching methods based on Katie's responses. When Katie struggled to abstractly grasp the difference between permutations and combinations, Wylene successfully used a relatable food analogy (putting it like that, being in food terms so I understand the best) which immediately clarified the concept. When she realized her socks/pants/shirts example was confusing the Multiplication Principle with the Combinations formula, she owned the mistake and changed instantly to a more formula-appropriate example choosing a PE team. She also successfully used dice and marble examples to differentiate independent and dependent probability when Katie admitted unfamiliarity with the concepts.
