Really great class! I was able to really understand the material and Zoey also knew the corresponding Khan unit so we could work on some harder problems too!

The tutor demonstrated a strong understanding of the material and used clear, effective explanations throughout the session. She came prepared with relevant learning materials and transitioned smoothly from Algebra 1 foundations to Algebra 1 functions after checking the student’s prior knowledge. Visuals were used well to support the student’s understanding, and the tutor encouraged deeper thinking by asking the student to explain concepts as if teaching someone else. This technique helped reinforce understanding and ensured the student wasn't just following steps, but actually grasping the reasoning behind them.

The tutor reassured the learner that it was ok that he was unsure what the slope-intercept form was and what the y-intercept was on a graph. By asking the learner which math topics he enjoyed at the start, the tutor attempted to build a bond and get comfortable with the learner.

The tutor did a good job at adjusting to the learner's needs. Once she felt that the learner understand the concept, she asked if he wished to move on or keep practicing a topic.

The tutor did a great job at asking the learner to explain how he knew that substituting y=6 in 6/y would give you 1. She kept asking the learner questions such as what an equation was to ensure he understood what he was doing. The learner seemed very engaged, asking many questions about graphing. The tutor used encouraging phrases such as "I like the way you think about it" instead of saying he was wrong. Amazing job for a first session!
