You did a really great job reading your learners essay and giving him feedback initially, but also left room for him to rephrase it in his own words by asking him how he would rephrase the first 2 sentences of his essays; I think this is a really great way to encourage him to explain his thinking and bring out his own writing style, which is great! I also noticed that this session was more of a session, with you and your learner bouncing ideas off of each other, rather than a typical teaching format; this is great because it allowed for your learner to stay engaged throughout, and also contribute his own ideas.
