Upcoming Sessions

SAT Reading and Writing Crash Course

    Starts

Each session, we'll go over one topic. These topics come straight from the official Reading and Writing Domains and Skills published by the College Board. The questions we go over together will come straight from the SAT Suite Question Bank, and we will draw from all difficulties to replicate the level students will see in Module 1 and Module 2 of the Reading and Writing Section. This crash course is designed to be quick and intense in order to prepare students for the Oct. 4 SAT :) Lesson 1: Information and Ideas - Central Ideas and Details (learning to comprehend passages and extrapolate key information) - Inferences (applying the information described in the passage to draw conclusions and answer questions) - Command of Evidence (identifying claims made in the passages and finding what evidence supports them) Lesson 2: Craft and Structure - Words in Context (identifying the meaning of unfamiliar vocabulary words based on the context of the passage) - Text Structure in Purpose (identifying and summarizing the overall structure of the text; how does the writer convey ideas?) - Cross-Text Connection (identifying the claims and viewpoints of two texts and evaluating how the writers of each text would agree or disagree with each other) Lesson 3: Expression of Ideas - Rhetorical Synthesis (use information from bulleted notes to achieve a certain purpose, like emphasize similarities or differences) - Transitions (find the most logical word or phrase to fill in the blank and move from one idea to another) Lesson 4: Standard English Conventions - Boundaries (fill in the blank with words and appropriate punctuation) - Form, Structure, and Sense (fill in the blank with phrases that are in the appropriate tense) Lesson 5: Final Summative Review - Review session of all skills - Practice with questions only from the Hard Difficulty straight from the SAT Suite Question Bank
