The environment you created was excellent. By being vulnerable and apologizing for your own lateness/oversleeping, you humanized yourself and made it safe for learners to also be imperfect. This clearly worked, as Madeline felt comfortable enought to admit she didn't feel confident in her math. You used names constantly and treated the learners like peers, which is a hallmark of great tutoring. When Ashley made a calculation error, you handled it with such ease ("no worries... just a small, tiny error") that it didn't disrupt her moment or discourage her. You maintained a "dope" and encouraging tone throughout that likely made the 110+ minute session feel much shorter for the students.

This was a very high-engagement session. You succesfully acted as a "guide on the side" rather than a sage. A great example of this was when you had Madeline draw the parallel line diagram and Ashley walk through the multi-step triangle problem. You allowed them to own the workspace. You also did a fantastic job of asking "Why?" or "How would you approach this?" rather than just confirming if an answer was right. When Madeline got 83 and Ashley got 84, you didn't just give the answer; you asked Madeline to explain her process, which allowed you to find the exact spot where a tiny calculation error occurred. To improve even further, you might try to facilitate more learner-to-learner interaction. For instance, if Madeline is stuck, you could ask, "Ashley, how would you help Madline look at this angle?"

Thank you for opening an onboarding session! I was quite nervous since this is the first Zoom meeting that I got to do through Schoolhouse, but everything worked out better than expected. Your explanations and constant demonstration of asking engagement to me and Dharaa were clear and helpful.
