Out of all the sessions I've peer reviewed, this has got to be the one with the most active engagement! You and your learner were having a conversation the entire session, contributing together to work towards the answers to the problems. And, you helped emphasize the process and the underlying concepts (the "why"), not just the final answer. You skillfully figured out what your learner already felt confident doing, and built on that with problems and strategies for solving them that were right for her, like when your learner explained what she knew about inverse trig functions, and you listened, validated her thinking, and built on that to direct her during the next problem. And, your learner felt very comfortable sharing her reasoning, which I can tell is because you are a very attentive listener. You always responded in a friendly way, even if your learner was a little off, and you never interrupted your learner.

This session was highly tailored to be exactly what your learner needed it to be! You made sure your learner felt comfortable talking out her thinking, and you made sure to thoroughly explain any areas of her reasoning that needed adjustment. Like mentioned above, you built on what your learner already knew highly skillfully. From the start, when you and your learner were ready to jump in together on the next part of pre-calc, you were super tuned in to how she was feeling and how she was doing with the material.

You seem to be locked and ready, knowing how to solve a great amount of the problem very quickly, and understanding the scenarios that are rapidly fired at you. I find this to be a really impressive skill compared to already knowing what problems you are going to present whenever you're lecturing.

Thank you so much, Sophia :)! You were so patient, it's like you sat there and taught a maybe sometimes-always in our session, laggy brick wall how to do math for like almost 2 hours and it actually was able to learn a lot 😅😂! You didn't even seem angry or frustrated once, I really appreciate it, Sophia, thank you, truly. Jesus bless :)! Acts 16:30-31 Romans 6:23 ❤️

Thank you for the session!! I liked how you broke things down in a variety of ways and our shared interest of understanding why math works.

Fantastic job being ready to jump in! You were super prepared for the session format, and your learner was too. There were no tech issues. The Zoom shared screen and the annotations were a great way for you guys to collaborate. You are also clearly super knowledgeable with this material, and your explanations were incredibly detailed. You never just explained the steps of solving the problem. Instead, you first asked your learner some questions to get her to recall what she already knew (for instance, that tan theta is equal to y/x in the unit circle because if the hypotenuse is 1, x is cos theta and y is sin theta), and then built on that with your own explanations and examples. This gave your learner the opportunity to build on what she already knew and confidently solve a new type of problem. You also used great visuals, including drawings of the unit circle and triangles, to teach. Keep up the amazing teaching!

I love how when everyone joined the zoom meeting, you referred to them by their name and gave them a safe space to tell them what they need help on! You focus in on every person and make everyone feel so much more special! You even greet people who come in whenever you're helping out someone else!

I liked the free-form whiteboard format you used. It clearly helped to have such an open-ended form of work instead of a more rigid slideshow. Your explanations were also very well done. Converting units can be very complex, so breaking them down into concepts that learners already know like number lines is an excellent way to make the concept feel like a natural progression of their knowledge. My only suggestion here could be to have some problems from varied topics prepared in advance, but this is a really small nitpick.

I learned a lot! Thanks again Sophia.

You did great! Your learners were very engaged, often conversing and sharing their problem-solving methods. For example 36-38 minutes are full of mathematical discussion!

You did a great job building connections, inviting students to share their thoughts, opinions, steps, etc. Within the first minute, you welcomed the students with a friendly expression and asked about their day. Throughout the entire session, you had a positive attitude and very joyful voice, this created a strong, comfortable learning environment.

I appreciate how flexible you are. I felt like the examples you provided solidified concepts like end behavior and the remainder theorem. There were moments where I needed to flesh out my reasoning and you provided me with that time.

i loved the explanations very clear
