When a learner was struggling to look at the answer choices and find the correct answer, the tutor suggested another approach. They noticed the learner's silence and encouraged them to instead try plugging in answers, while reminding them that there are no incorrect answers. Since the learner was still a little confused, the tutor was able to route the topic another way and help the learner solve it conceptually. In this way, the tutor effectively switched tactics to help understand it in whichever way made the most sense to them.

I like how you used an icebreaker at the start of the session and referred to learners by name throughout the session. I also thought you did a great job strengthening learners confidence: you commended them for getting things right and kept them encouraged after getting things wrong. The learners were clearly very comfortable participating and attempting questions even when they weren't sure they were correct.

The tutor switches between both her learners to give them both chances at solving the problems. The tutor lets the learners lead the problem-solving right from the start. When discussing a problem, the tutor guided the learner to the answer but also made sure to ask why the incorrect answers were incorrect. This was really useful for checking whether the learners had a solid understanding of how to use the Work equation for different forces in different directions. The tutor also consistently broke down questions into smaller pieces when they noticed that the learner was having difficulty approaching the problem.

I like how you prompted learners to share how they'd approach problems and lead problem solving. You had learners attempt the kinematics problems once they seemed to understand the concepts, which is a great way for learners to build up confidence. I also like how even when you were using an "I do" approach, you asked learners questions to keep them engaged. You did a great job building off learners' ideas. For example, in question 9, I like how you used the information learners shared about how they'd approach the problem to arrive at a solution process that made sense to them. This was an exceptional session—no recommendations here!
