Thank you for this session! Your explanations are really good and a crash course video paired with each class has been very helpful :)

Yes! In Sahana's case, aspects of her essay that she struggled with were worked on during the session and she left with more fleshed out ideas. Anvi also left Sahana with some tips and next steps for her to continue to work on her essay independently. And in Azaan's case, he came in needing support drafting a formal email and left with an email + notes on best practices for drafting a professional email!

Anvi did a great job at helping guide the conversation and facilitate ideas without giving them away to her learner -- it felt like Anvi was really a thought partner in helping learners develop their papers. One great example of this is around the 10 minute mark where Anvi asks Sahana an open-ended question to begin the discussion and gauge how much Sahana understands about the topic. Anvi also provided Sahana with some tools (highlighting) to go through the editing process while also pointing out key aspects of different parts of the essay. For example, Anvi mentions that it's important to juxtapose the problem to a larger context to emphasize it's importance in the introduction. I also think the leveraging of the rubric for the essay was a great way to streamline the conversation with Sahana. I think there is an opportunity for Anvi to go a step further and explain why it's important to do this in the introduction versus other parts of the essay.

You had great diagrams to explain how water dissolves polar and ionic molecules, and to explain dehydration synthesis and hydrolysis! Your explanation of where water comes from in dehydration synthesis was great and helped explain why removing water from monomers creates a polymer. You also effectively explained why carbon is such an important element in biology. Keep up the great explanations!

Throughout the session Anvi leverages off-the-cuff examples to illustrate concepts (loved the hamburger example when explaining the parts of an essay) and help her learners better understand what she's trying to explain. In addition, Anvi showcases a strong mastery over standard English conventions as well as general principles around essay writing that allow her to provide adaptive support to learners in real-time.

Started off the session with a positive tone, an introduction, and asking how to pronounce the learner's name. Anvi also invited the learner to turn their camera on and unmute but remained flexible when the learner shared their preferences to communicate via chat. Anvi did the same for learners that joined later and did a great job in juggling the different learners in her sessions and their specific needs. Anvi also does a strong job at celebrating learners when they did something well -- there's a ton of evidence of this around the 1:18:00 mark when Anvi is supporting Azaan in drafting an email. One particular instance that stood out is when she praises a sentence he wrote and mentions there's only one grammatical error in it. Instead of naming the error, Anvi asks Azaan to do so. I think this was an extremely well done move on Anvi's part because it builds confidence prior to asking a learner to do something vulnerable, such as identifying and correcting a mistake.
