You did a good job explaining what the simultaneous equations were before you started solving them, so the leaner has a general idea of what they are trying to do. You did a really good job of explaining every step and showing every step you did in the problems.
When the learner didn't understand how to do a part of the problem, I liked how you explained it in simple terms of a heart and a triangle. When you could tell he didn't understand it, you tried explaining it a different way which is great. I think something to help you improve is that you could try substituting in numbers to show the method and help the learner visualize more instead of doing the heart and the square.
I also think that if you lined up the terms when you were trying to solve for elimination, it would be easier. This is what you had (Not exact numbers, just example)
x-y=8
2-x=y
You could try this
x-y=8
x+y=2
Then the learner will be able to visualize the elimination more.
