Intro to Chemistry

*This session was requested by Siddartha K* During this session, we will be going over the first unit in Siddartha's science curriculum called Unit 1: Matter and Energy.

These are the standards:

* Students can describe the structure of atoms, including the masses, electrical charges, and locations, of protons and neutrons in the nucleus and electrons in the electron cloud.

* Students can identify that protons determine an element’s identity and valence electrons determine its chemical properties, including reactivity.

* Students can interpret the arrangement of the Periodic Table, including groups and periods, to explain how properties are used to classify elements.

* Students can recognize that chemical formulas are used to identify substances and determine the number of atoms of each element in chemical formulas containing subscripts. * Students can investigate how evidence of chemical reactions indicates that new substances with different properties are formed and how that relates to the law of conservation of mass. If you have any questions, feel free to send me a message!

The Ultimate Guide to Poetic Devices!

Are you having trouble understanding poetic devices in English class, or do you just want to revisit the main ones before an exam? Well, this is the session for you!

Hey everyone! In this session, we’ll be going through the main and most common poetic devices there are in English literature (e.g. Alliteration, Anaphora, Rhetorical Question, Hyperbole Exaggeration etc.), and some of the differences between the ones which might seem like they’re the same, but they actually are not. After explaining the poetic devices, we’ll be taking a quiz to see how much we’ve learned and afterwards, there will be time for you to ask any questions that you might have!

Hope to see you there!

SAT vs. ACT

In this session, we will discuss how the tests differ in format and content.

1. ACT Science vs. SAT Reading (Science Passages).

2. ACT Math vs. SAT Math

3. ACT Reading vs. SAT Writing

4. ACT English vs. SAT Reading

Notes: * We will *not* cover how colleges interpret test scores. * In my opinion, I do believe the ACT is a more difficult test due to its breadth. However, some students may naturally do better on the ACT than the SAT. This session should help you become more informed about which one to take.

Grab a drink and a snack, let's get settled in, poets! Today, let's play with the idea of "abstractness". Some poems are very literal, others make absolutely no sense. But why are both equally beautiful? Just how crazy can we be, and still have people be like: "I kinda get it..."? Let's unhook ourselves from the constraints of strict logic!
