About

Welcome to Dialogues! This session is designed for students who are brand new to Dialogues to learn more about how the program works. We'll discuss:
- What is Dialogues?
- What topics are discussed?
- What is the Dialogues portfolio?
๏ปฟ
Then, we'll answer any of your questions and go through a practice orientation.
๏ปฟ
After that, you can optionally join a full Dialogue session that starts immediately after this session. No preparation is required - just come ready to share your perspective and learn from others!
๏ปฟ
Hereโ€™s some helpful information to help you prepare for your session:
๏ปฟ
๐Ÿ“Œ Session introduction: At the start of the session, the event host will provide some introductory remarks about how the session will work and tips for discussion.
๏ปฟ
๐Ÿงฉ Discussion partner matching: All participants will be matched with a conversation partner to discuss with. If there are uneven numbers, you may have two conversation partners.
๏ปฟ
๐Ÿค Breakout discussions: After the session introduction, everyone will switch to their breakout discussion. Your discussion will be unmoderated, so you can start when your partner arrives in the new Zoom link.
๏ปฟ
๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Discussion Guide: You will have a topic-specific discussion guide for the session to help guide conversation.
๏ปฟ
โฐ Session length: The breakout discussions are scheduled for 45 minutes but you can discuss as long as you want!
๏ปฟ
โœ… Stay on topic: Please make sure to stay on topic. If you and your partner run out of things to discuss, itโ€™s okay to end the discussion early. You will not be returning to the main group when your conversation is over.
๏ปฟ
๐Ÿค” Make the discussion your own: You probably wonโ€™t have time to answer all the guide questions so pick and choose! Feel free to also bring in your own questions and ideas outside of the guide.
๏ปฟ
๐Ÿ“ Survey: A mandatory survey will appear at the end of your session to fill out. This must be filled out for you to get credit for the session in your Dialogues portfolio.
๏ปฟ
๐Ÿคธโ€โ™‚๏ธ Have fun: There is no preparation needed for this event. These conversations are meant to be casual, in addition to being meaningful. We hope you enjoy it!

I'm a current senior in high school, and thrilled to join the Schoolhouse community! Some of my favorite subjects are biology and mathematics, and my favorite pastimes include playing my violin, debating, and curling up with a nice H.G. Wells novel. :) Happy to help out with: - College applications! - AP Biology - AP Calculus AB - AP Psychology - AP Language and Composition - AP Environmental Science - AP United States Government & Politics - The SAT (R&W and Math)
