Welcome to the NASA Committee sessions for the Schoolhouse Model United Nations 2026!

Schoolhouse MUN is an online Model United Nations event organized by a team of volunteers from Schoolhouse.world. Delegates will have the opportunity to represent different countries in six distinct committees of the United Nations. This experience will enhance their understanding of current world issues and improve their public speaking, collaboration, and leadership skills.

Overview of the Committee’s Agenda:
﻿
The Space Race of 1961: arguably one of the most pivotal events in human history. It was an event that turned outer space from an unexplored dreamscape to a battlefield of bitter competition, namely between the Soviet Union and the United States.
﻿
In this fierce quest to establish dominance in the celestial realm, however, many lives were lost. Astronauts on both ends were placed in dangerous conditions, what with space travel still being revolutionized and optimized, and many lives became statistics for the losses that both nations faced, as the price for being some of the first countries to trek outside the Earth’s atmosphere. The nations found themselves struggling to ensure the safety of human lives while balancing the need to expand the bounds of their scientific knowledge.

Delegates, your task is to create an agreed-upon proposal of policies that will optimize human welfare and safety while venturing into outer space. Collaborate with one another based on your nation’s policies and viewpoints to allow humanity to continue their exploration.

Will you be the one to take a leap, not just for your nation, but for mankind?

Attending all sessions is encouraged, but due to the several different time zones, a participant must attend a minimum of 3 sessions in order to receive a certificate of participation.

In Committee Session 1, we’ll be started with your General Speakers List (GSL) speeches. This is your country policy speech and it is highly recommended that you prepare this beforehand. Delegates can also start this time to discuss moderated caucus topics for the future committee sessions. If time permits, we will start with Moderated Caucuses as well.

In Committee Session 2, we’ll continue/start with moderated caucus speeches. We would look favourably upon 1 unmoderated caucus as well. 
Even if you don't have any MUN experience, don't worry, we'll be giving you resources and guiding you along the way

In Committee Session 3, we’ll continue with debate through moderated and unmoderated caucuses. It is also recommended that delegates start the formation of blocs.

In Committee Session 4, delegates will start working on Working papers (precursors to draft resolutions that contain a bloc’s proposed solutions) and have 1-2 moderated caucuses.

In Committee Session 5, delegates will present their working papers and have a question and answer session with other delegates. If required, blocs might merge. Work on draft resolutions will commence.
