About

Hi all, I'm Jane. I am a current college sophomore—philosophy, classics, and comp lit major—and I look forward to helping you write great essays and feel confident about college!

As a student at St. John's College in Annapolis, MD, I believe that a collaborative, discussion-based approach to education works best, so I expect you all to arrive ready to read, learn, and participate, with cameras on! (Debates about the correctness of the Oxford Comma in the sentence above are also encouraged!)

This College Admissions Workshop on The Essay (TM) is a virtual 4-week workshop designed to provide you with structure and support to write your college essays this summer.

In this workshop, you will:
  • Learn the purpose and the must-dos of the personal statement
  • Learn and practice strategies for picking a prompt, brainstorming, drafting, and revising your writing
  • Understand the role of supplemental questions and strategies for organizing your questions and responses
  • Work alongside other students who are also preparing to apply to college.

Hello there! I'm a philosophy/natural sciences/classics (triple!) major and pre-law hopeful from the US. I'm currently a sophomore at St. John's College, unique for it's Great Books program, and I'd be happy to talk about it if you're interested in what it entails. In my free time I enjoy writing, playing double bass in my college's String Ensemble, and spending time with friends and family, including my two adorable dogs, Bella and Athena.

What you'll do

Learn the purpose and the must-dos of the personal statement

Learn and practice strategies for picking a prompt, brainstorming, drafting, and revising your writing

Understand the role of supplemental questions and strategies for organizing your questions and responses

Work alongside other students who are also preparing to apply to college

Please do not miss more than one session over the four weeks, as that will negatively affect your learning and may also take up a spot from another learner who could have attended every session.

If you reach two unexcused absences, your tutor may remove you from this series.

Note from Schoolhouse: This series has sessions with required attendance. If you need to miss a required session, submit an absence using the "Submit Excused Absence" button on the series page. Multiple unexcused absences may lead to a suspension of your Schoolhouse account.
