About

This series prepares middle schoolers for the EOG ELA by focusing on high-weight domains: Reading for Literature (36-41%), Informational Text (43-47%), and Language (11-16%). Each session involves live passage analysis, practicing 'technology-enhanced' item types, and mastering context-clue strategies for complex vocabulary. Learners will actively participate in 'spiral reviews' and collaborative reasoning to build stamina for the 3-hour exam window. No prior materials are required, but bring a growth mindset!.

Informational texts are the biggest part of the EOG! Today, we’ll master how to track an author’s argument and evaluate whether their claims are supported by sufficient evidence. We will practice 'Paired Passage' strategies—learning how to compare and contrast two different texts about the same event. We’ll also tackle those complex diagrams and charts that often appear in the informational section.

Tonight we dive into 'Craft and Structure.' We will analyze how authors use specific word choices, analogies, and figurative language (like metaphors and personification) to create tone and meaning. We’ll practice identifying how a story's plot unfolds in episodes and how an author’s perspective is shaped. This is key for those tricky 'What does the author imply?' questions on the EOG!
