About

How did music go from medieval chants into the crazy, unlimited music we know today?
How did music progress from single notes to the chaos of modernity?

If you've ever wondered how music transformed throughout the centuries and decades, come by and explore this session! We go into different eras of music (medieval, renaissance, baroque, classical, romantic, contemporary), different styles and traditions of music, technological and cultural advancements over time, and more!

You don't need to know any music theory to join this session, but my goal is to make you walk away from this session with a more open view on music knowing more different kinds of music and yearning to listen to more of it or to make your own someday! And on the off chance that you don't, it's good trivia to ask you families on a good Sunday night!

(Willingness to interact is recommended, but not required, as this is a larger scale session.)

Hello, fellow Schoolhouse.world classmates! My name is Ryan and I am a HS senior. While I live in the USA, I speak Mandarin at home. You probably come here to know what kind of tutor I am, so I'll just say it: I think connection is the base of all peer tutoring, so that's something I aim to emphasize with my learning structures. I'm not a fan of lecture-style tutoring (though I sometimes do it anyways since I have a habit of overexplaning myself) and I'm not a fan of textbook-style learning: you learn the way you feel most with. With the way I talk, and the fact that I'm kind of anti-social and giddy when I talk, you won't get the most straightforward session, but what you will get is one that makes you feel welcome and comfortable (I hope 😊) Now about me: I have played piano for almost 11 years, and love to play Romantic era compositions and jazz music. I’m not vert studious, but I am very involved-participating in two mini jazz ensembles, Chamber Choir, Model UN, NAQT Quiz Bowl, Jazz Band (at district level) and Theatre Orchestra, as well as functioning as Vice President and accompanist of Concert Choir. I’m also an avid MOBA gamer, and I play a lot of Mobile Legends, some Honor of Kings, and recently started playing League of Legends I’m personally not very strong personality wise, but something I do take pride in is my willingness to challenge myself, through taking challenging classes (took Multivariate Calculus just last semester) and fighting my antisocial instincts/fears of public speaking through Model UN and Schoolhouse.world, and also auditioning for actual theatre! My goal is to get Gold in Schoolhouse, get accepted in-state to become a data science major and eventually get my Masters degree, and be the best I can be.
