About

Starting high-school soon? If yes, then you should join this series. Most students start falling behind in math at Algebra I, but this series should get your feet a little wet in this subject. The plan for these sessions is to introduce the concept of variables, lines, equations, functions, inequalities, systems, exponential growth, quadratics, and much more. Pre-algebra is useful, but you do not need to know any pre-algebra in order to learn from this series. My goal in this series is to build up everybody toward algebra mastery. This course, along with Algebra II, sets the foundations for mathematics that jobs are looking for. Ever wonder why we need to learn the ins and outs of functions? Well functions are used all the time in high-paying jobs, such as a computer science analysts and programmers, simulation engineers (engineers in general 😁), and physicists. I can't wait to give your the ultimate tour of Algebra I!

✋ ATTENDANCE POLICY

If you cannot attend a session, please dm me on schoolhouse and I will send you supplementary materials to aid you. If you miss two sessions in a row without reaching out to me, I will have to remove you. Let's hope that doesn't happen 😁.

Session 1

Orientation

I will introduce myself, the course, and the schedule for the series.

Session 2

Algebra foundations

Now the fun begins. We will go into the history of algebra itself, introduce variables, establish ways to manipulate expressions and terms, and recognize equivalent expressions.
20
Jul

Session 3

Solving equations & inequalities

A big one. This will be a two-parter. This session we will introduce equations, the fundamental rule of algebra, and will develop rules to simplify one and two step equations.

Session 4

Solving equations & inequalities

A big one. This will be a two-parter. This session we will introduce equations, the fundamental rule of algebra, and will develop rules to simplify one and two step equations.

Session 5

Solving equations & inequalities

Part two of solving linear equations and inequalities introduced last session. This session we will introduce inequalities, learn how to solve multistep equation, and learn how to deal with equations that have parentheses.
10
Aug

Session 6

Working with units

Since this is a smaller unit, this will also be a wonderful time to review any challenging problems from the previous sessions. We will learn how to make unit factors and convert units into other forms (Miles to meters)

Aug

Session 7

Linear equations & graphs

This session I will introduce the cartesian plane and linear equations. This is the most important part of Math itself, the simple line. We will go over the concepts of slope, intercepts, and much more!
24
Aug

Session 8

Forms of linear equations

This session we will expand our knowledge of the linear equation by discussing different forms of the equation and how they are useful.
31
Aug

Session 9

Systems of equations

This session we will learn about solving multiple equations with multiple variables. There are two ways of doing this: Substitution and elimination. Also from now on, I will change the time of sessions to 4:00 pm eastern so that not everyone will be in school.

Sep

Session 10

Inequalities (systems & graphs)

Time to grab your colored pencils! We will be solving systems of inequalities and graphing them as well.

Session 11

Review

Midterms! We will review difficult concepts, take a quiz, and solve a mathematical riddle!
