About

This 4-day "boot camp" will focus on common equations/functions seen on the SAT. Each day we’ll discuss a different type of equation (linear, exponential, quadratic, and circles). We will focus on understanding the parts of each equation & their various forms (for example: standard, vertex, slope-intercept forms), when to use each form, and how to identify graphs when given their equation (with a focus on transformations). This series will be designed for learners who have already been exposed to the equations before and want brief review & extra practice.

Hi! I'm a first-year EE major at Georgia Tech (originally from Savannah, GA), and I currently serve as a TA for Physics. I like to host sessions in calculus, physics, and SAT/AP prep. I enjoy hiking, painting, and learning new things. Really excited to learn with you all! 😊

Orientation

Fri 6:00 PM - 6:30 PM UTCJul 23, 6:00 PM - 6:30 PM UTC

This is a session to get a brief overview of the series and get to know each other. Feel free to ask questions about the series.

SESSION 2

SAT Math

SAT Math

Mon 6:00 PM - 7:10 PM UTCJul 26, 6:00 PM - 7:10 PM UTC

LINEAR EQUATIONS: In this session, we’ll learn what a linear function is, and explore its various forms (standard, slope-intercept, and point-slope). We’ll learn about how to convert between them, and when to use each. We’ll then practice SAT questions testing these skills from past tests & Khan Academy. ~~~Coming into this session, you should already have a basic understanding of what slopes/y-intercepts are & how to find them when given a graph, although we’ll *briefly* review this with a warm-up.

SESSION 3

SAT Math

SAT Math

Tue 6:00 PM - 7:10 PM UTCJul 27, 6:00 PM - 7:10 PM UTC

EXPONENTIAL EQUATIONS: In this session, we’ll learn what an exponential function is, the parts of the equation, and the general properties of an exponential function’s graph. We’ll also practice identifying the graph of a given exponential function or vice versa (with a focus on transformations). We’ll then practice SAT questions testing these skills from past tests & Khan Academy. ~~~Coming into this session, you should already know what asymptotes & y-intercepts are & how to identify them, and what exponents are & how to evaluate them.

SESSION 4

SAT Math

SAT Math

Wed 6:00 PM - 7:10 PM UTCJul 28, 6:00 PM - 7:10 PM UTC

QUADRATIC EQUATIONS: In this session, we’ll learn what a quadratic equation is, how to find x-intercepts with the quadratic formula, the 2 common forms of a quadratic equation (standard & vertex form), how to convert between them, and when to use each. We will also learn about how the basic quadratic equation looks graphically, and how to identify graphs when given a quadratic equation or vice versa (focus on transformations). We’ll then practice SAT questions testing these skills from past tests & Khan Academy, with a focus on the vertex form & related optimization applications ~~~Coming into this session, you should already know how to factor, particularly with the completing the square technique although we’ll *briefly* review this with a warm-up.

SAT Math

Thu 6:00 PM - 7:10 PM UTCJul 29, 6:00 PM - 7:10 PM UTC

CIRCLE EQUATIONS: In this session, we’ll learn what a circle equation is, its 2 common forms (standard and general) & how to convert between them, and how to visualize the graph when given the equation or vice versa. ~~~Coming into this session, you should already know how to factor using the completing the square technique, how to find the area of a circle, and have a basic understanding of the pythagorean theorem or the distance formula. We’ll review completing the square in the warm-up.
