Introductory Probability – Dice, Balls & Basic Logic

SAT Score Range

1 session

This series ended on July 4, 2025. All 1:1 and group chats related to this series are disabled 7 days after the last session.

About

In this session, we will focus exclusively on the basics of probability as outlined in section 5.3 of the CAIE Probability & Statistics 1 syllabus. Learners will evaluate probabilities in simple cases, such as:

The total score when two fair dice are thrown

Drawing balls from a bag containing different colors

Case enumeration of equally probable outcomes

We will not cover permutations or combinations in this session. Our emphasis will be on direct reasoning, tabulation, and real-time problem-solving based on core principles.

Learners are expected to engage actively during the session — solving problems live, explaining thought processes, and understanding how to construct sample spaces manually. A calculator, pen, and paper are recommended.

This session is ideal for anyone preparing for A-level Statistics 1 or anyone wishing to strengthen foundational probability logic before tackling advanced concepts.

Probability and combinatorics

Probability and combinatorics

Fri 5:30 AM - 6:30 AM UTCJul 4, 5:30 AM - 6:30 AM UTC

In this session, we will focus on the fundamentals of probability as outlined in the CAIE S1 syllabus (section 5.3). We will not cover permutations or combinations. Instead, we will work through simple yet essential concepts such as evaluating probabilities using enumeration of equally likely outcomes, and using the addition and multiplication rules appropriately. Examples will include scenarios like rolling dice, drawing colored balls, etc.

This session is ideal for learners who already understand the basics of probability and want to solidify their grasp through worked problems and live discussion. Please bring paper, pen, and a calculator (physical or Desmos). Active engagement is expected as we solve problems together and clarify concepts as we go.
