About

In this introductory series, we’ll explore the origins and causes of the continuation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, starting in the late 19th century and continuing to the present day. We’ll also talk about the role of key places like Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza, and how they fit into the broader picture.
Although this is primarily meant to be a space for learning, there will also be group discussions. My hope is that we can all come in with openness: to hear one another fully, ask thoughtful questions, and build mutual understanding, even where we might disagree.

Structure:
Each session will start with a talk to give some historical background, followed by group discussion.
No prior knowledge is expected- just curiosity and a willingness to engage.
Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Hi! I’m an incoming college freshman who loves running, reading, and writing. I’ve scored highly on the AP Literature and AP U.S. History tests as well as the SAT R&W and math sections. Happy to help with anything writing-related!

Makeup session!!🥳🥳

For those who are new, hi! In this session I'll be reviewing material from session 1, session 2, and session 3 as well if we have enough time. Others who are not new but might want a refresher are welcome to join as well! Content descriptions are below.

-We will learn about Palestine in the early 1880s up to the 1930s. Who lived in Palestine in the 1880s—and what did the term Palestine even mean at the time? How did the demographics of the land change over the next couple of decades, and why? What attracted Jews to the land and what did their immigration look like?

-We’ll explore how escalating tensions in Palestine between Jews, Arabs, and the British shaped the development of the Yishuv (the Jewish community in Palestine) between the early 1920s and the late 1930s. And we'll look at key turning points like the San Remo Conference, Arab riots and massacres, British policy shifts, and growing Jewish immigration and military organization. We'll also discuss how external events like Nazi Germany’s rise and the Haavara Agreement influenced Jewish migration, and how the British response—including White Papers and partition proposals—reflected growing pressure from all sides.
