About

In this course, you will learn the basic skills associated with primary source (eye-witness accounts) analysis and understanding different perspectives. This skill is crucial for the IB and AP History exams, but also can be applied to any other assignment or test involving source material!

Literally 0 prior knowledge on any of the historical events that we talk about in class is required. I will go through the stuff we need to know and spend the majority of the class teaching you how to pick a part the perspective and to teach you how to write a response.

How will each session work?
Every week, I will present you with a different historical event or theme. We will learn about the topic together and then move into a primary source analysis. I will take you through how to analyze a source and how to understand the perspectives being offered.

Why do we only spend a bit of the class on learning about the historical event?
Let's say we are covering the War of 1812 and our primary source is from a grieving American mother whose son is off on the battlefield. The skills that we are looking to build is focussed on understanding the primary source material and extracting the information we need to either write a response or an essay. Yes, if you are taking the IB or AP exam, you need to supplement this with further information. However, in this class, we are focussed on building skills of primary source analysis.

Any questions? Post them on the question board. :D
