Tutoring Practice & Subject Review

6th session

Every Friday, students will explain how to solve various Algebra II-level problems that the tutor(s) will provide, honing their understanding of Algebra II material. The tutor(s) will provide feedback and question the student's reasoning as they explain. The session may either cycle through Algebra II units or focus on a specific topic at the students' request.

[From an 3x AIME Qualifier] AMC 10 Review

7th session

In this course, we will be going over AMC 8, 10, 12, and AIME content.

Why should you take this course?

Although not necessary for school math, the methods taught in this class can be very beneficial in solving problems in a "smarter" way. This class will teach you tips and tricks schools tend to not teach. From my personal experience, competition math has made school math very easy and offers me much more insight into understanding concepts.

Additionally, competition math can be very helpful in boosting your resume for high school and college. Many of the top schools like MIT ask specifically for your AMC scores, so it will make you stand out from other students.

What will we learn in this course?

The best way to get better at competition math is to do problems, especially those of past AMC tests. While going over past problems, we will spend time learning about the four different categories in math: Algebra, Number Theory, Geometry, and Counting & Probability.

This course will be designed to give you better intuition for AMC problems as well as teach you new formulas and strategies.

How will the classes operate?

A normal class will be a 90-minute session. It is not helpful to listen to me explain solutions for 90 minutes, nor is it helpful to solve just problems for 90 minutes. So, I will give you a few minutes of time to attempt the problem and then we will go over the problem together.
