This session is for people who want to ace all areas of linear equations/functions. We will start with slope, then go on to types of linear equations, and then get into graphing. Questions will be asked to foster critical thinking and deepen understanding of the concepts. By the end of this series, you will master all areas of linear equations and also fully grasp the concepts. Prior knowledge required is the basics of what functions are (their definitions), a good foundation on what the coordinate plane is, and the ability to solve variable equations.

Algebra l Khan Academy Competitions!!!
2nd session
Each week, we'll do Khan Academy competitions that culminate in one Kahoot at the end! Winners get a certificate and tons of bragging rights!
Note: if this series doesn't reach 30 registered learners by one day before its first session, I'll unfortunately be moving it. Please encourage your friends and connections to join!

Join this interactive series where we explore Art of Problem Solving’s Introduction to Algebra; one of the best books for mastering the fundamentals of algebraic thinking. Each session will focus on one chapter at a time, breaking down the most important concepts, formulas, and problem-solving strategies to help you build a strong foundation in algebra.
We’ll work through example problems step-by-step and practice applying key ideas to challenging exercises. You’ll also learn effective approaches and reasoning techniques that can help you in math contests and advanced coursework.
Remember to bring a Pencil, Eraser, and Calculator! Each lesson runs 60–90 minutes, covering one chapter per day for steady, in-depth progress through the textbook.
Whether you’re just starting algebra or want to strengthen your fundamentals, this series will help you understand not just how to solve problems, but why the methods work.

Quadratic Functions study group
23rd session
Timing: Approximately 9 weeks
In this series, you will develop a strong foundation in the concept of quadratic functions. You will understand that quadratic functions have a linear rate of change and are often formed by multiplying two linear expressions, and therefore not linear. Quadratic functions are useful for modelling phenomena that have a linear rate of change and symmetry around a unique minimum or maximum. This foundational understanding of quadratics helps you build your conceptual knowledge of nonlinear functions and prepares you for further study of polynomial and rational functions in Algebra 2.
ENDURING UNDERSTANDINGS
You will understand that ...
- Quadratic functions have a linear rate of change.
- Quadratic functions can be expressed as a product of linear factors.
- Quadratic functions can be used to model scenarios that involve a linear rate of change and symmetry around a unique minimum or maximum.
- Every quadratic equation,
, where
is not zero, has at most two real solutions. These solutions can be determined using the quadratic formula.
KEY CONCEPTS
- 1: Functions with a linear rate of change
- 2: The algebra and geometry of quadratic functions
- 3: Solving quadratic equations
- 4: Modelling with quadratic functions
