About

Finals season is coming up in just 3 months! In this class, we will go over every unit of Algebra 2 (based on Khan Academy's Curriculum), plus some extra Pre Calculus topics. Meetings will be held once a week for 10 weeks, with each week dedicated towards 1 unit. The goal is not to make the preparation process too overwhelming.
Classes will meet on Saturdays, starting 3/14, at 12:00PM EST (Eastern Time).

Hello! My name is Konner, and I am glad to be your SchoolHouse tutor! I am a Freshman in High school and I have mastered Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, and Trigonometry. I love playing golf and the piano, as well as teaching others mathematics. ✨⛳️🏌️🎹 I always strive to give students the best learning experience. To meet this criteria, each session will be accompanied with professional slideshows, a digital math pencil (the one where I write on the screen), and plenty of exercises.

✋ ATTENDANCE POLICY

You can miss sessions, but do know that you may fall behind in the class. Unless I was notified before, class time won't be dedicated towards reviewing the previous class's material.

SESSION 1

Complex numbers

Complex numbers

Sat 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM UTCMar 14, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM UTC

Complex numbers are everywhere, even though they technically are invisible! We will learn the definition of a complex number, and how we can apply it in terms of evaluation and application to quadratics.
SESSION 2

SESSION 2

Polynomial factorization

Polynomial factorization

Sat 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM UTCMar 21, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM UTC

In Algebra 1, you likely learned how to factor quadratics. However, what about those longer polynomials with degree of 3+? We will learn about the Rational Root Theorem, as well as using the sign test in order to sketch these cool functions.
SESSION 3

SESSION 3

Polynomial division

Polynomial division

Sat 4:00 PM - 5:15 PM UTCMar 28, 4:00 PM - 5:15 PM UTC

Polynomial division is a crucial part of learning how to graph polynomials. Long and synthetic division will be used. Multiplication will also be quickly gone over, but it uses the same principles as FOIL.
We will also go over how to graph and identify polynomials.

SESSION 4

Exponential models

Exponential models

Sat 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM UTCApr 4, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM UTC

We will revisit exponential equations and learn how to apply them to word problems.

SESSION 5

Logarithms

Logarithms

Sat 4:00 PM - 5:15 PM UTCApr 11, 4:00 PM - 5:15 PM UTC

Logarithms, everyone's favorite (actually, it's quite the opposite). We will learn how to tackle this inverse function and understand the properties of them, leading to solving complex equations that may show up on final exams. Because logarithms typically require a good amount of time to process, this session will last 75 minutes.

SESSION 6

Transformations of functions

Transformations of functions

Sat 4:00 PM - 4:45 PM UTCApr 18, 4:00 PM - 4:45 PM UTC

Vertical stretch, horizontal compression, dilation, you name it! We will cover all of these cool transformations that shift shapes all around the coordinate plane. Class will be shortened to 45 minutes due to the content being relatively shorter.

SESSION 7

Equations

Equations

Sat 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM UTCApr 25, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM UTC

We will go over how to find inverses of functions, as well as certain definitions of functions (one to one, odd, even, etc.)

SESSION 8

Trigonometry

Trigonometry

Sat 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM UTCMay 2, 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM UTC

Introduction to Trig is a fundamental part of Algebra 2, and will be the majority of work in Pre Calculus. We will go over the basics of Sin, Cos, and Tan, and learn how to apply these functions to solving for side lengths/angles in triangles. We will then begin an introduction to the unit circle, special triangles, radians, and hopefully graphs of trigonometric functions. Class is extended to 90 minutes to accommodate the extensive material covered.

SESSION 9

Modeling

Modeling

Sat 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM UTCMay 9, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM UTC

We will continue from the last class and apply transformations to sinusoidal functions, which will come with learning about the amplitude, period, and midline. Word problems will also be discussed.

SESSION 10

General Algebra II Q&A

General Algebra II Q&A

Sat 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM UTCMay 16, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM UTC

A cumulative exam! This is to hopefully simulate what your Algebra 2 final will look like.

SESSION 11

General Algebra II Q&A

General Algebra II Q&A

Sat 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM UTCMay 23, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM UTC

This topic is NOT listed in KA's Algebra 2 curriculum, but it may appear on some final exams, which is rational functions/graphs. We will learn how to identify and graph vertical/horizontal/slant asymptotes using all of our new Algebra 2 skills.
