Why do certain cities grow while others shrink? How do businesses know where to build their next headquarters? Welcome to Introduction to Demography, a 4-week deep dive into the mathematical and sociological study of human populations.

In this series, we will bridge the gap between social science and data analysis by exploring the "Big Three" of demography: Birth, Death, and Migration. We will move beyond simple counting to understand complex global trends, aligning our lessons with all 14 Career Clusters—from Healthcare and Financial Services to Digital Technology and Agriculture.

What we will cover:
* The Scientific Foundation: We begin with Unit 0 of AP Psychology to ensure we handle human data responsibly.
* The Math: You will learn to calculate and apply formulas for fertility rates, mortality, and population growth (Introduction level—no advanced calculus required!).
* The Concepts: We will analyze Population Pyramids and the Demographic Transition Model to predict future societal needs.

How you will engage:
* Interactive 90-Minute Sessions: Expect a mix of conceptual lectures, live "solve-along" math problems, and ethical debates.
* Flipped Classroom: To maximize our time, you will be expected to review some materials and complete practice problems outside of our Saturday/Sunday meetings.
* Real-World Application: You will choose a career path that interests you and apply demographic data to solve a specific challenge within that field.

✋ ATTENDANCE POLICY

To ensure a cohesive learning environment and respect the limited spots available, please adhere to the following:

* The "First Session" Rule: Attendance at Session 1 is mandatory. This sets the foundation for our entire series. If you miss the first session without prior notice, you may be withdrawn to make room for students.

* The 75% Requirement: To receive a certificate of completion/vouch, you must attend at least 6 out of the 8 sessions.

* Communication is Key: We understand that life happens! If you have a conflict, please message the tutor via the Schoolhouse platform at least 24 hours before the session starts.

* Outside Work: Since we only meet for 3 hours a week, much of the "math practice" happens between sessions. Failure to engage with the outside materials may result in a lack of progress, which we will discuss during 1-on-1 check-ins.

* Withdrawal Policy: Students with two consecutive unexcused absences will be withdrawn from the series to allow active learners to join.
