About

We will cover various aspects of modular arithmetic, from what it even means to how one can use it to solve seemingly impossible problems. Besides basic understanding of division and remainders, no other information is needed to understand and partake in this short series! There is not going to be any homework, though I will link some resources for additional practice if one wishes to do so.

Hey everyone! I'm Xander, a California high school student that loves anything related to math or physics. Quantum physics is my favorite thing to study, but I appreciate most other areas of physics. I've participated in math competitions such as Math Counts, and I am currently studying in order to try to qualify for the AIME!

SESSION 1

Orientation

Orientation

Sun 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM UTCJul 9, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM UTC

We will start our series off by getting to know each other a bit before breaking down the meaning of modular arithmetic. Then, we will start to get familiar with the special notation used to describe relationships in this field as well as do some basic problems involving modular arithmetic. Lastly, we'll go over some incredibly helpful tools for understanding and practicing modular arithmetic.

Other Topics

Sun 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM UTCJul 16, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM UTC

We will quickly review the notation learned in the previous meeting, and then start discussion of operations in modular arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, and multiplication.

Other Topics

Wed 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM UTCJul 19, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM UTC

This session will cover divisibility rules for numbers up to 10, as well as a bit further than that. We will also not just learn these rules, but focus on their genesis by using modular arithmetic to find patterns.

SESSION 4

Other Topics

Other Topics

Sat 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM UTCJul 22, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM UTC

We will use everything that we have learned so far to practice solving problems using modular arithmetic. Difficulties will range from pretty straight-forward to much more difficult and proof-like problems. Don't worry! We'll be going through each part in order to learn how to approach these types of problems essential to higher level mathematics.

Sun 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM UTCJul 23, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM UTC

With our basic knowledge of operations in modular arithmetic, we will now use it to solve types of problems, from remainders of powers to systems of modular congruences.
