Healthcare

Healthcare

Sat 10:00 PM - 11:00 PM UTCFeb 7, 10:00 PM - 11:00 PM UTC

Healthcare plays a fundamental role in the well-being of individuals and societies. It encompasses not only access to doctors and hospitals, but also preventive care, mental health, health education, and public health systems. Yet healthcare systems around the world vary widely in terms of cost, access, quality, and who pays for what.

As medical technology advances and populations grow and age, societies are grappling with big questions: Who should be responsible for providing healthcare? How should it be funded? And how can healthcare systems be made fair, effective, and sustainable?

Cancel Culture & Online Accountability

Cancel Culture & Online Accountability

Sat 10:00 PM - 11:00 PM UTCMar 7, 10:00 PM - 11:00 PM UTC

In today’s digital world, individuals and institutions are often called out online for statements or actions seen as offensive, harmful, or inappropriate. Some people see this as a form of necessary accountability. Others view it as excessive punishment that limits free expression and promotes fear.

This discussion explores the tension between protecting free speech and holding people accountable for their words and actions. It encourages students to consider the social, cultural, ethical, and legal implications of online callouts, boycotts, and cancel campaigns.

Euthanasia & Assisted Dying

Euthanasia & Assisted Dying

Sat 9:00 PM - 10:00 PM UTCMar 21, 9:00 PM - 10:00 PM UTC

Euthanasia and assisted dying refer to the intentional act of ending a person’s life to relieve suffering, often in the context of terminal illness, chronic pain, or loss of autonomy. In voluntary euthanasia, a patient gives informed consent to end their life. In assisted dying (or physician-assisted suicide), a medical professional provides the means for the patient to do so themselves.

These practices are legal in some countries and regions, usually under strict guidelines. In many others, they remain illegal or highly controversial. Advocates argue that people should have the right to choose a dignified death, especially when facing unrelievable suffering. Opponents raise moral, ethical, and practical concerns, such as the sanctity of life, the potential for abuse, or pressure on vulnerable individuals.

This topic raises deep questions about autonomy, compassion, medical ethics, and what it means to live and die with dignity.

War & Foreign Intervention

War & Foreign Intervention

Sat 9:00 PM - 10:00 PM UTCMay 2, 9:00 PM - 10:00 PM UTC

Foreign intervention occurs when one country becomes involved in the affairs of another—whether through diplomacy, military force, humanitarian aid, economic pressure, or support for political movements. Governments often justify intervention by citing national security, human rights, international stability, or the promotion of democracy. Critics, however, argue that interventions can be self-serving, destabilizing, or harmful to the people most affected.

From wars and regime changes to peacekeeping missions and foreign aid, the topic of intervention raises difficult questions: When is it justified? Who decides? And what responsibilities do powerful countries have toward others?

Identity

Identity

Sat 9:00 PM - 10:00 PM UTCMay 30, 9:00 PM - 10:00 PM UTC

Identity is central to how people see themselves and how societies are organized. Some believe identity should be primarily individual and defined by personal choices and autonomy. Others see identity as deeply tied to groups such as nation, religion, ethnicity, or culture. Political debates often center on questions like: Is national identity important? Should societies emphasize shared traditions, or embrace multiculturalism? Should identity be understood through intersectionality and group experience, or through individual freedom and self-definition?

This discussion invites students to explore how identity is shaped, what role it plays in society, and how perspectives differ across cultural and political lines.
