About
Step into the shoes of scientists and policy makers to tackle real-world challenges!
Each session, you’ll:
1. Break down a real science-related issue.
2. Hear a new research-based proposal from “scientists” (student participants).
3. Compare it to the current real-world approach as “policy makers.”
Debate, question, and vote: Do we stick with the status quo, or adopt the new idea?
This club is perfect for anyone who loves science, debate, critical thinking, or just seeing how knowledge shapes our world. No prior expertise needed — only curiosity!
How it will go:
Each Science Talks session is interactive and role-based. Here’s the flow:
Introduction & Topic Reveal – We start with a short icebreaker, then introduce the real-world science problem for the day.
Role Assignment – Students are split into two teams:
Scientists get short, easy-to-read excerpts from a real research paper.
Policy Makers receive a brief summary of the current real-world solution.
Team Preparation –
Scientists work together to explain the new research proposal and why it could be better.
Policy Makers study the current approach and prepare questions.
Presentations & Debate – Scientists present their case. Policy Makers ask questions, challenge ideas, and compare both solutions.
Decision Time – Policy Makers decide whether to keep the status quo or adopt the new proposal — and explain their reasoning.
Wrap-Up – We reflect as a group on what we learned and how science can influence real-life decisions.
You don’t need any prior science expertise — just curiosity and a willingness to discuss ideas!

The topic for this session is School Start Times.
What scientists propose: We should delay schools' starting time based on the solid evidences discovered. What policy makers care: Adopting the proposal vs Sticking to the status quo (with no biases, of course 😁.)
Be ready for an exciting combo!
No prior preparation is needed (but feel free to explore the topic before the session). All info/materials needed will be provided.
