We'll go through most of the topics in Pre-Algebra and work through practice problems in the winter each session! There will be a final in on January 7th, 2023.

Orientation

What I plan to cover, and my expectations for this series!

Session 2

Systems of equations

We'll learn about systems of equations with lines. We'll take a look at some practice questions. It is recommended to have experience in lines and the different forms of line equations but people from all levels of experience are welcome to join. We will not cover systems of equations with parabolas, cubics, absolute values, and other radical functions. Bring your own questions that you are having trouble with to the session! I personally recommend that you have graph paper, pencil, and an eraser with you. Calculators are not needed as the material we will cover includes basic arithmetic math.

Session 3

Percentages

We will cover everything about percentages from scratch! All experience levels are welcome to join. I recommend you join this session with some basic knowledge on fractions and decimals and how you convert from fractions to decimals or the other way around. I recommend bringing any paper, a pencil, and an eraser to take notes and do questions. Bring your questions that you are having trouble with!

Session 4

Variables & expressions

We will introduce variables and expressions. I recommend knowing order of operations before attending this session. But everyone is welcome to join! I recommend having any paper, a pencil, and an eraser!

Session 5

Factors and multiples

We'll get all into prime/composite numbers, factors, and multiples! No prior experience is needed other than basic multiplication skills and an understanding of multiplications. Everyone is welcome to join! I recommend bring a piece of paper, a pencil, and an eraser to this session!

Session 6

Exponents intro and order of operations

We'll learn the basics of exponents. We'll also cover order of operations. We'll take a look at some practice questions. All levels of experience in exponents/order of operations are welcome. We will not cover negative powers, fractional powers, and we will only cover whole number bases. Bring your own questions that you are having trouble with to the session!

Session 7

Functions and linear models

This session will be us learning how to graph a function from the equation which connects to polynomial functions and rates of changes. I recommend bringing graph paper, pencil, and an eraser. I recommend experiences in understanding functions and how equations of functions work.

Session 8

Patterns

We will cover Patterns in Pre-Algebra level math. We will cover what a pattern is and the rules regarding patterns. We will cover how you can graph patterns. Please bring a pencil, eraser, and paper for notes and math problems. All math levels are welcome to join!

Session 9

Multi-step equations

We will be covering the definition of multi-step equations with examples and how to solve them. We will be getting into complex forms of them. Be sure to bring a pencil, eraser, and paper to solve along and take notes. All math levels are welcome to join.

Session 10

Review

We will review the concepts above and take a sort of mid-term test and test the lessons covered previously. You will receive 45 minutes to complete 14 questions (7 multiple-choice + 7 written). The first 15 minutes will be review of any concepts we want to review then we will get straight into the test (if we are done with review early, the additional time can be spent on the assessment).
