About
Are you a STEM student with great ideas but struggle to express them clearly? In StemCOMM, you'll learn how to communicate confidently and persuasively, whether you're explaining a science project, pitching an invention, or leading a team. We'll cover tactics from body language and tone to proper articulation. With interactive exercises, peer feedback, and useful techniques, you'll level up your public speaking game for the real world!

This series will build up to a final project, so regular attendance will help you get the most out of it! Please try to attend at least 4 sessions to stay on track and fully participate in the final showcase. If you need to miss a session, just message me ahead of time—no stress. Staying engaged helps make the class more fun for everyone!

We’ll kick off with a fun “Yes, and…” activity to build quick thinking and teamwork through short conversations with different partners. Then, everyone will take turns speaking twice using random words, with quick feedback to highlight strengths and areas to improve. We’ll finish with a random question challenge where volunteers practice thinking on their feet, followed by a group reflection on what we learned.

We’ll start by introducing ourselves and sharing our STEM interests. Then, we’ll practice answering a mix of technical questions about our projects and personal questions about our experiences. We’ll also take turns asking peer-created questions to build confidence speaking on the spot. Next, we’ll explore creative “what if” scenarios to think outside the box. Finally, we’ll reflect on how to communicate our STEM work clearly to different audiences and what makes a strong presentation.

For our final session, we’ll prepare and deliver 3–5 minute presentations on our favorite STEM topics, focusing on explaining them clearly and with enthusiasm. We’ll take turns sharing our talks, then give and receive feedback to help everyone improve. Finally, we’ll reflect on what made the presentations effective and the communication skills we’ve gained throughout the course
