About

Welcome to the Nova, a featured competition in Schoolhouse Nexus to celebrate Schoolhouse’s 5th Anniversary! This event is designed to test participants’ knowledge of theoretical and practical physics while also evaluating key skills such as critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving. Participants will compete in a structured, multi-round format, with increasing difficulty and eliminations at each stage.

Event Heads: Cris M, Siom P.

Hey! Welcome to Nova! This event isn’t just about formulas and equations—it’s about thinking critically, spotting physics in the world around you, and defending your ideas with confidence. 💡

It’s designed to meet the needs and grant a space to anyone passionate about physics.

You’ll face ...

Multiple rounds, each more challenging than the last, testing everything from your problem-solving skills to your ability to think on your feet.

You'll get creative with every round, improve your communication skills, and start to look at physics as you never before did. A comprehensible yet immersive journey in physics is awaiting you!

So...are you a maker, problem solver, or creative?
⚛️ ⚡️ 🪐 🌱 Let's start this game together.

Hello! I'm from Kenya and I self studied my way to a 1590 composite score on the SATs (800 math and 790 RW). I really love math and frequent olympiads.

Hi I'm Siomara, for short Siom! I'm passionate about entrepeneurship, quantum physics (hella yhh) and design! -my pfp is actually the 'logo' of my personal brand lol. Design= math x imaginary numbers. A concept that uses design as a way to add value and turn powerful ideas into practical outcomes. Just as QM applies 'i' to portrait multiple chances of electrons' states, it also reveals them. Design does that in the form of adding purpose to ideas capable to shape our identity.

Round 1: Kick Off—General Test on Quizziz ✨

Welcome to the first challenge! This round is all about testing your foundational knowledge of physics, from mechanics to electromagnetism.

To expect:
A mix of curious and intuitive questions that will push your understanding by thinking outside the box.
Good luck, and may Newton’s forces be with you! 💫 🎯

Round 2: Physics World-Map!

Physics works to understand the world around us! A constant design of what surrounds us. 🌌 ☄️

To expect:

You’ll be shown a series of images, diagrams, and visual clues representing different physics concepts, laws, and phenomena from thermodynamics to modern physics.

Your task? Identify them correctly before time runs out!

Round 3: Nova Debate

In this round, you’ll step into the shoes of a true physicist and debate a thought-provoking physics topic. A strong and creative argument will add you points; bring examples and provide real-life analogies or experiments, and your chances to win will increase. 🔭🪐 ⚙️

To expect:
Each participant will be assigned a stance—either for or against—on a complex physics-related question.

Round 4: Nova Scape Room! 🔭

In this challenge, you’ll be “locked” in a virtual scape room filled with physics-based puzzles, challenge problems, and a mix of questions testing different sides of a singular topic. This escape room is above all fun to play! 🥳

To expect:

Each correct answer unlocks the next clue, bringing you one step closer to escaping to the final 'surprise' room. Yes, something is awaiting for you at the end. By the way, thematic music will vary from hard level to easy level, so use it as a way to track your results. Topics tested include circuits, optics, electromagnetism, and more! 🌌💡⚙️

Round 5: Elaborate on a physics statement and prove a theorem.

This is your chance to think like a true scientist, pushing boundaries and exploring ideas with creativity. This round is all about how you approach the problem, think outside the box, and showcase the depth of your understanding in a completely different way. Ready to prove what you know in the most inventive way possible? Let’s see what you’ve got!

Example:

How does a rocket work? and then prove why it follows Newton’s Third Law—but here’s the twist: you get to show your proof using a fun experiment, a cool analogy, or a real-world example that makes it easy for everyone to understand.

To expect:

Elaborate on a physics statement—whether it’s about quantum entanglement, relativity, laws of thermodynamics, etcetera—and prove a theorem related to the concept or its foundational core concepts (All in Modern Physics) in your own unique way. 🎯 🎲

Final Round: Design an experiment!

Learn with the hands on the mass! Try, observe, explore, ideate, design, and prove. This is your chance to be a scientist! ⚡️🪐
In this round, you’ll be given a random set of everyday objects (like a rubber band, a ruler, or a cup of water) and a physics law or concept to test.
Your challenge? Come up with a creative experiment using only the items provided and create a model question based on the application of the expected results after your thought and application process.

Examples:

How would you measure acceleration with just a ball and a stopwatch?
Can you prove Newton’s Third Law with some string and weights?
& What can we infer from that? Anything to prove, question, or solve?

To expect:

You’ll have 25 minutes to prepare, present the question, and explain it through the experiment. Communicate your process and applications of expected results.
Judges will score based on creativity, feasibility, communication skills and scientific reasoning. ☄️🪐🏅
