Series Details

About

This session will cover all of the key concepts in Calculus AB, from limits to integrals, while seeking to understand what we are doing rather than just how to do it. This session is best for those reviewing calculus, though those just learning it are welcome to join. By the end of this session, you will be able to complete the Course Challenge for Calculus AB on Khan Academy.

✋ ATTENDANCE POLICY

You are free to attend sessions on whichever topic you need the most help with (you will only be withdrawn if you do not participate for an entire week). However, please note that Calculus is cumulative, so if you struggle with an earlier topic, you will probably struggle with later topics.

About the Tutor

I am a high school student in Long Beach, California who loves calculus, physics, and statistics. I genuinely believe that anyone can learn learn challenging topics like calculus and look forward to helping you on your math journey! When I attend university, I want to major in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering and love to mess around with engineering projects in my free time.

Session 1

Orientation

We will start off by familiarizing ourselves with the cohort and overview the topics which we will be discussing. With the time remaining, we will dive into calculus by discussing what limits are and basic limit laws.
6
Jul

Session 2

Other Topics

We will continue our discussion of limits by exploring one-sided limits, continuity, and limits at infinity.
7
Jul

Session 3

Other Topics

Using what we learned about limits, we will derive the definition of a derivative and practice calculating derivatives using basic derivative laws (power, sum, difference).
8
Jul

Session 4

Catchup

This will be a catchup session for anyone with additional questions or for anybody wanting to try more practice problems.

Session 5

Differentiation: definition and basic derivative rules

We will delve into more derivative rules, including the product/quotient rules, and use them to calculate the derivatives of various trigonometric functions. We will also calculate high-order derivatives.
9
Jul

Session 6

Review

This will be a review session to practice a variety of problems to master all of the skills we learned during the first week.
12
Jul

Session 7

Differentiation: composite, implicit, and inverse functions

We will discuss using the chain rule and use it to derive the formula for calculating derivatives of inverse functions.
13
Jul

Session 8

Differentiation: composite, implicit, and inverse functions

We will practice implicit differentiation and combine all of the derivative skills we've learned thus far to practice derivatives.
14
Jul

Session 9

Contextual applications of differentiation

We will apply all of the derivative formulas we've learned to solve a variety of word problems involving related rates and position/velocity/acceleration. By the end of this session, you will be able to set up and solve derivatives based on word problems.

Jul

Session 10

Catchup

This will be a catchup session for anyone with additional questions or for anybody wanting to try more practice problems.

Session 11

Contextual applications of differentiation

We will explore L'Hospital's rule to solve more challenging limits.
16
Jul

Session 12

Review

This will be a review session to practice a variety of problems to master all of the skills we learned during the second week.
19
Jul

Session 13

Applying derivatives to analyze functions

I hope that you're not tired of derivatives yet because we will continue to apply derivatives through the Mean Value Theorem, the Increasing/Decreasing test, and the First Derivative Test.
20
Jul

Session 14

Applying derivatives to analyze functions

We will continue to explore how derivatives relate to the graph of a function by applying the Extreme Value Theorem, the Second Derivative Test, and concavity.
21
Jul

Session 15

Integration and accumulation of change

We will finally pivot away from derivatives and talk about antidifferentiation and Riemann sums.
22
Jul

Session 16

Catchup

This will be a catchup session for anyone with additional questions or for anybody wanting to try more practice problems.

Session 17

Integration and accumulation of change

We will connect Riemann sums and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus for finding areas under curves.
23
Jul

Session 18

Review

This will be a review session to practice a variety of problems to master all of the skills we learned during the third week.
26
Jul

Session 19

Applications of integration

We will learn u-substitution and try a variety of practice problems to practice integration.
27
Jul

Session 20

Applications of integration

We will discuss techniques for applying integrals in various contexts. By the end of this session, you will be able to set up integrals for the area between curves and to find the average value of a function.
28
Jul

Session 21

Differential equations

We will learn various techniques for finding the volume of solids through integration, including the shell and washer methods.
