About

This is a simple, practical course, specifically designed for anyone who wants to make use of a piano in their house. No more, no less.

The study of music theory in this course will be as simple and truncated as possible; therefore if you are very interested in that field, I will have to (sadly) recommend that you don't register for this series.
(If you are one of these people who are interested in studying music theory in-depth, I fear that this series might give you a very poor starting foundation — which might possibly affect the rest of your journey. To avoid that, I would suggest you start with online music theory textbooks — ABRSM and Trinity are two of the syllabuses I would recommend.)

However, the office hours (and NOT the regular sessions) will be quite suited for those who are:
- already possessing a knowledge of basic theory but want to receive basic feedback on their playing to supplement their practical,
- or transitioning over to piano from a different instrument (including the electric keyboard).

Office Hours will have the structure of a typical piano class, involving learners performing songs they have practiced before the session and me giving basic feedback on practical skill. However, please take note that I am not a certified piano teacher! Attend at your own risk, but I will try to help as much as possible :)

Unfortunately, due to the short nature of this course and the substantial amount of material it will be covering, the homework exercises are absolutely mandatory if you want to learn how to independently play the piano by the middle of September. I highly encourage you to DM me if you'd like extra homework (gasp, the horror!), feedback on practicals, or have any questions at all!

Of course, as per the title, fools are very welcome in this series. Come forth, fool, and learn The Piano with the rest of us!

Tutor Qualifications

I've completed the Trinity Grade 8 exam and was awarded a Trinity High Scorer Award in 2022. I've also played for the soft launch of a piano brand, if that counts.

✋ ATTENDANCE POLICY

Please do try to come to every session you can! If you aren't able to make it but would still like to keep up with this course, let me know and I'll see if I can host review sessions.

Note: Office Hours are not mandatory and focus on practical skill, so they might not be as beneficial for absolute beginners in the first half of the series.

About the Tutor

I'm a student from Malaysia who would like to help people learn efficiently. In my free time, I like to play the piano, talk with people, and complain about the inconsistencies in movies. What do you like to do?

The time for Office Hours is very negotiable! If you'd like me to help with a specific song, please let me know beforehand and I will prepare for it. My ability to sightread has unfortunately deteriorated as of late...

Even if you're not looking to receive feedback on your playing, please feel free to pop in and ask any questions on performance! (How to bring out dynamics, improve your fingering, etc etc.)
