About
An introductory look into a typical first semester college level music theory course / AP Music Theory.
For sake of brevity, we will only focus on the first 4 units on the CED of APMUT:
- Unit 1: Music Fundamentals 1
- Unit 2: Music Fundamentals 2
- Unit 3: Music Fundamentals 3
- Unit 4: Harmony & Voice Leading 1
Within these units, we will not go too in depth into some of the complicated topics in each unit, but expect to learn:
- How to read notated music
- How to identify intervals and chord qualities, both from notation and by ear
- How to notate a simple melody from ear
- How to notate the top and bottom voices of a simple four-part harmonic progression
- How to realize a simple four-part chord progression using 18th-century voice-leading procedures
- How to sight-sing a melody
Any level of musical experience is welcome, but it is highly recommended that you have had at least one year of experience on an instrument.
Sessions will occur 4 times a week, focusing on a unit every two days. Day 1 will be written analysis, and Day 2 will be aural analysis. Dates and times are subject to change with no further notice.
