About

This series is an introduction to the marvelous game of chess. It's intended for new players who are looking to learn some basic strategy in the opening, midgame, and endgame. If you have an ELO rating (or chess.com) rating of over 1000, then this course will be mostly a review for you. The first half of this series will go over strategy and the second half will be me reviewing and commentating on your chess games.

Thu 12:30 AM - 2:00 AM UTCJun 30, 12:30 AM - 2:00 AM UTC

This class will focus on the opening, which I believe is the most important part of the game. A strong opening allows for stronger attacks and stronger defense in the midgame. I will go over general opening strategies and strong openings for both white and black. I may also cover some cheesy opening traps that are fun to win with ;)

Enrichment

Enrichment

Thu 12:30 AM - 2:00 AM UTCJul 7, 12:30 AM - 2:00 AM UTC

This class will focus on common, but powerful strategies for winning material, including forks, double attacks, discovered checks, and pins/skewers. I will show example games to demonstrate how these strategies can be used in attacking and avoided while defending.

Tue 12:30 AM - 2:00 AM UTCJul 12, 12:30 AM - 2:00 AM UTC

This session will focus on attacking the king in the midgame. After all, the king is the most important piece, and the game ends when the king falls. I will show the venomous fishing pole trap as well as example games where the king is attacked on the kingside, the middle, and the queenside.
