Series Details
About
Do you know how to find the area of a rectangle? How about the volume of a cube? What if I told you that these simple questions are related to one of the most important concepts in algebra: polynomials? Polynomials are expressions that involve adding, subtracting, multiplying, and raising variables to whole-number powers. They show up everywhere in mathematics, science, engineering, and even art. In this series, you will learn how to manipulate, factor, and graph polynomials, as well as how to solve equations and inequalities involving them. By the end of this series, you will have a deeper understanding and appreciation of these versatile and powerful mathematical tools.📚
This series will be divided into three main units:
- Unit 1: Polynomial arithmetic. In this unit, you will learn how to add, subtract, and multiply polynomials, as well as use special products. You will also explore the connection between polynomials and the integers. This unit will prepare you for factoring and dividing polynomials in the next unit.
- Unit 2: Polynomial factorization and division. In this unit, you will learn how to factor polynomials using various methods, such as common factors, grouping, difference of squares, and perfect squares. You will also learn how to divide polynomials using long division and use the remainder theorem to evaluate polynomials. This unit will help you understand the structure and behavior of polynomial functions.
- Unit 3: Polynomial graphs and features. In this unit, you will learn how to graph polynomials and analyze their features, such as degree, end behavior, zeros, multiplicity, and turning points. You will also learn how to find the average rate of change of polynomials and use sign charts to determine where a polynomial is positive or negative. This unit will enable you to model real-world phenomena using polynomial functions.
Note: This series will last until all of the Polynomials in Algebra II have been covered and fully understood.
