Science [ For Adult Learners]

In this series we will cover basic topics needed for the preparation of Hi-Set (Science) Exam. There are 4 main areas where this Exam focusses on : 
1. Science Inquiry and Skills (Designing, analysing, evaluating and interpreting data in Research)
2.Earth and Space Science (Earth, Weather and Natural Disasters, Changes in Earth, Environment, Space, Moon and Solar system)
3. Physical Science (Atom, Molecules, Changes, Matter, Energy &  its Transfer, Motion and Force & work )
4. Life Science (Cells &its Functions, Plant &its metabolism, Animals, Human Body, Health, Organism, Heredity, Evolution, Ecosystem, Food webs & Symbiotic relationships)
Each session in this series will be for half an hour and in each session we will go-over a couple keywords ( critical words that explain an individual concept, for example to understand atom, we need to learn about Protons, Neutrons and Electrons, here Protons, Neutrons and Electrons are the keywords) that will help us understand a concept and track our progress. We will have frequent assessments and tests to help us build a good foundation.

[Summer Camp 2022] Perspective from scientists' viewpoint

So many scientists shaped today's world. Some of which we have studied in schools or learned in books. But we hardly understand science from their perspective. How did they start?
They were pioneers that struggled to prove their theories. So in this series, we can discuss science from their perspective. How were they discovered? What were the struggles? We will discuss the young and old discoveries. Not only their works but sometimes their life alone are so inspiring that it will be a shame if we gloss over them. Hence, in some sessions we will about their early life, education and their life beyond work.
Occasionally, we will discuss findings that won a noble prize or questionable ethics/practices that led to some of the most significant discoveries. 

All are welcome !!! There will be a very lively discussion at the end of each session when we will discuss ethics and why it gained popularity or not? We will discuss its potential use in the future.

Note: New sessions will be added as the series progress. Each session will have a different context so, you can join in any of the sessions.
Also, I am looking for tutors/learners who will cohost with me or present their favourite topics in some sessions.

TOEFL Prep

Hi guys !! So this series is for those who plan to take the TOEFL exam or just want to improve their language skills. We will meet up for 2days (around 90min/session) every week.  
We will discuss the exam pattern, practice reading, listening, writing, and speaking and solve full-length practice tests. We will begin with the Reading and Listening sections as they can be easily scored full with little effort. Then we will move on to Writing and Speaking.

We will follow a basic framework given below: 

Week 1: 1 session: Orientation
Week 2: 2 session: Reading 
Week 3: 2 session: Listening
Week 4: 2 session: Writing 
Week 5: 2 session: Speaking
Week 6: 2 session: Full-length tests

Don't forget to bring paper and pen !!! You will need it to write  answers and take notes.

AP Biology [ All Units] - Last Minute Prep

This is a 9-day last prep for the AP Biology exam. Each day we will discuss 1 unit, either concepts or practice problems based on learners' needs.

There will 2 sessions per day (for most of this series); you can join either or both. 
To bring some kind of structure to this series, I will assign each day a unit. We will begin with the Unit having the heaviest exam weightage: Unit 7 (Natural Selection), and continue in the descending order. 
The last day is reserved for Q/A or doing whole AP practice tests.

Since I won't be able to cover the entire concepts of one Unit in a 60 min session, I would only focus on the subunits that are troublesome for you. 

So bring plenty of doubts with you. If you have practice problems /tests that you would want to solve, bring those too.

Hi-Set Exam [Science]

Welcome, all! This series will be based on the learners' needs. Hence, each session will be different. In some sessions, we will concentrate on concepts: understanding science logically and concisely. On other days, we will go over Hi-Set Practice tests and identify the troublesome questions. So, you can bring your own practice test papers or problems to solve here.

The sessions will be hosted on Saturdays. The sessions will be added as the series progresses.

3 Days 3 Concepts

This will be a crash-course on Central Dogma : Replication, Transcription and Translation. 
We will go over these concepts in-depth and answer any confusion with logic. At the end of each 1-hr session we will solve some practice problems (from Khan Academy). 

This series can be for beginners or those who wish to revise and solidify their concepts. The only prerequisite needed is to have a basic understanding of DNA, RNA and Proteins. You should be able to answer the components of DNA, RNA and Proteins and know the basic function of an enzyme.

Biomolecules & Enzymes

This is a 3-week course. We will be covering 3 significant branches of Biomolecules: Carbohydrates, Proteins & Lipids before briefly discussing Enzymes. 

The syllabus will be loosely based on NCERT (Class XI) syllabus but not limited to it. We will also try to solve practice problems in  Khan Academy from units: macromolecules and biomolecules (MCAT).

The classes will be of 1 hr for 4 days/week: Thurs, Fri, Sat, and Sun. On Sunday, we will be doing the practice problems in Khan Academy on the topics we have studied. This will be a helpful way to revise our concepts.

Prerequisites: You should have a basic understanding in chemistry. For example: You should be able to understand terms like electronegativity.
Since basic chemistry will be used to understand the formation of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins.

Exploring Biology [ The basics]

This is a very long series and new sessions will be added as the series progress.

In this series, we will explore the topics of biology three days every week. I will be using the syllabus of classes XI and XII (Indian CBSE syllabus), but I will go beyond the syllabus to include topics relevant to Indian exams, such as NEET.

Each session will be about 40 min to 1 hr on weekdays. The sessions will build upon their last, so it will be better to attend  all the sessions or already have a prerequisite knowledge about the topics.

In this series, I will cover 5 units given below:

1. Cell and chromosome: Basic Unit of Life (Completed)

2. Genetics and Cell cycle (ongoing). Intended date to finish : 21st Feb.

3. Gene & regulation and human genetics. Intended date to finish : 28th March.

4.Tools and technology in Biotechnology and Biomedical Techs

5.Biomolecules and Enzymes

Hi all ! Do you ever encountered problems during your session especially like when you can't seem to get your learners to respond. Did you ever feel like you were talking forever in your session. Because I did and for a long time I didn't know what to do, thankfully I found my peers who helped me with it. 
I generally tutor in biology, so some sessions are very descriptive that can easily translate into 'lecture style' of teaching even you try your best to avoid it. This makes it hard to follow 'Active Learning'. 
This session is focussed on 'Active Learning' of tutoring but it won't be all about it either.  This will be very informal session so we will share our stories, our journey here at SHW and make some new friends. 
So if you find yourself wanting to improve your tutoring skill or you are just here for fun. I welcome you to join this session.
