Mentions are a way to notify someone about a specific post. They're useful when you want to draw someone's attention to a particular post or discussion.
If you mention someone, they will receive a notification, similar to when you respond to their post or give feedback. Clicking on the notification will take them to the post.
You can mention:
A moderator, if there is questionable content
A tutor, if they are hosting a session that might answer a learner's question
A learner, if a different post answers their question.
You don't need to mention someone who created or already replied to the post, since they'll automatically get notifications for new replies. Still, you can mention them to clarify who you're responding to or if you haven't heard back after a few days.
To mention someone, type "@" followed by their first name.
For now, you can only search by first name
Clicking on a mention will open that person's profile in a new tab.
Once a mention is made, the notification is sent immediately. Editing your post to remove a mention won’t retract that notification, and adding a new mention later won’t send one (since the mention menu doesn’t appear while editing).
